A Plan to End Homelessness (PDF)
During the week homelessness services and community groups educate the community and advocate for change via national and local community events, media and social media activities.
In 2023, Homelessness Week 2023 will take place from Monday August 7 to Sunday August 13. The theme for Homelessness Week 2023 is “It’s time to end homelessness”.
We have put together these resources and fact sheets about homelessness and best practice responses to homelessness.
This aims to provide a practical set of principles to implement systems and cultural change, as well as to serve as a source of useful information for people in the LGBTIQ+ community who are or might be accessing these services.
Housing First is now recognised internationally as the most successful model to end homelessness for people with high support needs who have experienced long term or recurring homelessness. Explore the description of each principle and watch the webinars to gain a deeper insight into the principle in practice.
Find out about Housing First, including who Housing First is for, the applicability to young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, or women, and the history of this work. Access links to research and other resources.
Homelessness Australia’s vision is to end homelessness. This will only be possible with significant change to government policies to enable everyone to have the housing, income and support they need to gain and sustain a home. You can help end homelessness by adding your voice to advocacy. Use the resources below to inform your work.
This Fact Sheet provides information about different definitions of homelessness, including the definition used by Homelessness Australia.
This Fact Sheet provides information about the incidence, causes, risks and solutions to child and youth homelessness.

Shelter WA is proud to host this year’s Homelessness Week, a national annual event occurring the first week of August.
2023’s theme is “It’s time to end homelessness”, and we chose to shine a spotlight on the regions.
This year, Shelter WA did things a little differently.
We made the decision to secure funding for a grants round that local communities in the regions and metro area could apply for, for local communities to showcase the issues and solutions in their own area.
We are so proud and excited to share the full program of events led by community and congratulate all recipients.
Shelter WA were proud to secure $60,000 total funding through Lotterywest and have awarded $40,000 to 15 regional projects and $20,000 for 6 metro projects.
These events will be running up to and during Homelessness Week.
Click on the links below for the full list of grant recipients and their amazing projects.
Our Closing Event will see an exciting showcase event where each of the regions will be reporting back on their events held and the solutions they intend to put forward.

The right and rational path is a stronger system of social housing that provides security and stability to individuals, while at the same time bolstering our common national prosperity. The alternative is an increasingly brutal financial contest for something that should be a basic right of citizenship – decent shelter.
If we don’t act now, nothing will change. We need your help and support to continue to build momentum and public support for the government to fund social housing.
